The Best Computer Education
CompuScience offers the best in computer education for preschool and elementary students. In CompuScience classes the ratio of computer to child is 1:1; we want the child to get the most out of the activities in class. Beginning with the essential skills and progressing into advanced use of a variety of applications, each group works at a level most comfortable for the students. The structured environment encourages learning and enjoyment.
The Goal for Computer Classes
The goal of computer classes is for each student to be comfortable using a computer, to have a basic understanding of how a computer system works, and how to properly care for a computer. The children will use a variety of software in class ranging from educational games to office software to programming software, depending on grade and age level.
Watch Them Grow
Parents know what their children are learning in computer classes by email updates they receive and by visiting the class website. Each week, they'll receive a report describing what their child did in class, what topic was studied, and the software used so that they can reinforce the activities on their computer at home. All the software we use in class is available at any computer store or through the class's software club.
Each month the children paint pictures that are posted on the class website for you to see and to share. This allows you a peek into their classes each month and to really see their progress from the start of the year to the end.
Preschool Computer Lessons
Preschool children come to computer classes each week for 90 minutes. They learn the basics of how to take care of a computer, they learn to identify the proper names for the parts of the computer, and they work on their computing skills by playing a variety of age-appropriate games. The children work alone or in pairs at the computer, never more than 2 children work on a computer at a time.
Preschool children discuss the parts of the computer and how they work together. To further enhance the discussion, the teacher may bring in a mouse or keyboard and the class will take it apart and examine how it works (always with a stern warning not to do this at home!). They learn from a very basic level how a computer works and how to use it. Beginning with mouse skills and expanding into keyboard use, they learn the proper way to use the equipment and how to treat it so it lasts a long time.
The strong skills they develop will prepare them for higher levels of computer use that will come as they grow up and enter Elementary School.
Elementary Computer Lessons
Elementary-aged children learn that many tasks can be completed by using a computer and are prepared for a world where computer proficiency is so essential. Children are assigned classwork, homework, quizzes, and tests on the subjects covered in class to evaluate their progress. Our teachers work closely with regular classroom teachers to develop activities that coincide with the classroom lessons. The elementary curriculum fulfills all state requirements and national guidelines for technology education. Our lessons far exceed grade level standards.
CompuScience classes are taught and supervised by specially trained instructors who understand how important it is to assist each child to reach their full potential. They make each class enjoyable and interesting by showing the kids that its fun to learn and to try new things.
